Services

We offer many services to our customers. If you have a problem we can help you eliminate it and get back on the road!

  • Subaru Engine Conversions

We pride ourselves in the engine conversions we do, our specialty is the 06' & 07' Subaru VVL/VVT, Variable Valve Lift and Variable Valve Timing 2.5 liter fly by wire engines. These engines are a perfect fit, from the increased efficiency to the increased horsepower they are what should have been in the Vanagon originally.

We have seen an increase in fuel economy with these engines in the range of 20 to 30% from the stock gasoline 2.1l or 1.9l engines. With the age of these only being a few years old it is very common to find engines with very low mileage anywhere from 1000 to 30000 miles.

Our conversions for these engines start at $5000 plus the cost of the engine, usually $2500 to $4000

    Conversions include the following items:

    • The bellhousing utilizing the Subaru flywheel and starter for manual transmissions and the adapter plate for automatics.
    • Stainless Steel Header
    • Modification of the Subaru Harness
    • Cast Aluminum Oil Pan
    • New Rubber Engine Mounts
    • All Fluids
    • Custom Air Intake System
    • Tachometer with correct redline for the Subaru engine

    Extras:

    • Syncro skid plate installation $125
    • Synthetic fluids

  • Syncro Conversions - 2WD to 4WD

Having performed over 12 Syncro conversions you can trust us to do the job right! With the ever sought after Syncro Westfalia getting harder and harder to find as well as increasing in value it makes sense to look at the alternatives. It is still possible to find a very nice Westfalia and a donor Syncro to build one of these incredible vehicles for your own. There are many options available during the conversion process from limited slip locking differentials, lift kits, big brake conversions and off road bumpers.

Our Syncro conversions are $5100 plus the cost of the donor parts, usually between $2000 and $3500. There are additional possible costs including refurbishing any worn parts or rebuilding the transaxle or fron differential.

Syncro conversions include the following items:

    • All labor and materials for the conversion process
    • New front upper ball joints
    •  Synthetic Brake Fluid
    • 5 year warranty on workmanship

  • Westfalia Pop Top Installation/Conversion

If you have a clean Syncro or other Vanagon you may want to add a factory Westfalia top as many of our customers have done.

Our pop top conversions start at  ~$3500

    They include the following

    • Factory fiberglass pop top installed closely to the way it was done at the factory. We use the sheet metal and supports from the original camper
    • New 3 window canvas pop top
    • New pop top seal
    • Color match paint
    • New Westfalia decals

These conversions do not include the complete camper interior, that is usually an additional $1650 plus parts.

In July 2009, North Westy installed a Westfalia top onto our 90 vanagon. Matched the paint perfectly, after new canvas, now we have a Multivan. Its a member of our family, this vehicle and we dont go anywhere w/out it. Thanks Kirk!

North Westy installed Westie top on my 95 Syncro Eurovan. Great job. Close to on time and very much on budget. Thanks Kirk, you are a pleasure to work with.

My vanagon in hawaii (home) and my westy in seattle were both running hot. North Westy got them both purring along. I'm hoping to find a syncro for kirk to drop a subaru engine into (and another free trip to hawaii for kirk).

I  purchased my 85 weekender from North Westy and have been so happy. it was a bit of a project (i knew that when i got it) but after many trips to the parts supply yard :) and many hours of North Westies knowledge and tools i now have a pretty sweet ride. still a project but i know where to go for sure. big peace sign and wave to North Westy.

I love this guy. He converted my 88 Westy to a Syncro and taught me all kinds of Vanagon stuff in the process. I have 30K miles on the conversion so far and zero problems with his work. I'm going to keep this van for a long time. Kirk does great work, he's super knowledgeable, and a great guy to boot. I'd recommend him to a friend without hesitation.

Why have a Syncro if the 4wheel drive doesn't work...?
Last year Kirk removed the worn out viscous coupler in my Syncro and installed a solid shaft that I had sitting in my toolbox for over a year. YEAH Thanks Kirk. Awesome job ~ You are always so helpful!
I'm looking forward to camping in the snow this year and no worries about getting myself around in the weather! =)

Kirk has been a great help to me in a very short time. Clearly passionate, informed and patient. I had a trailing arm snap off out in the bush on my syncro. He organized to have one dropped off by a friend from Vancouver who went down and visited. Plus, he graciously answered all my questions and queries. North Westy is a great resource for us vanagon/syncro folks.

Thanks Kirk

North Westy has a great concept in which people who are not Vanagon, and especial Syncro master mechanics, can get the work they need done, conversions, and upgrades, and learn something along the way. This is sooo much better than simply dropping off your pride and joy without a real understanding of what's involved or how to deal with similar work on your own in the future. Kirk's creativity and ingenuity is invaluable.
